APAW – Poodle Pups for Working Roles

Comfort was from our C litter – a total oops litter between a brother and sister who had just been donated to APAW for service dog training and we hadn’t realized for a few days that the sister was actually in heat!

Regardless of how a puppy comes into existence, if they are a fantastic dog it is worth evaluating them for breeding potential. Comfort has met or exceeded every expectation we have – she has a phenomenal middle-of-the-road temperament suitable for service, therapy, performance and companionship, has very nice overall structure and conformation, passed all of her health testing, and has continued to live a healthy and active life as she ages (currently 10 years old). The only ‘sad’ thing is that she did not inherit the excellent diversity results that her sire passed on to some of his other offspring; her diversity is still very nice particularly in that her haplotypes are less common and she is quite unrelated to most of the Standard Poodle population, just very inbred (obviously – though of note, she is genetically less inbred than our Charlie, who had a very low COI by pedigree but very high inbreeding results by genetic analysis, as is common in the breed).

Other than visit us for training/showing, breeding and vacations, Comfort has been doted on by her wonderful guardian/retirement home since she was a pup.
